Technical Data for 1961 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88

Welcome to the Tech Section. I got my hands on:'61 Oldsmobile Service Manual, covers: 88-S88-98's; 1963 Parts/Accessories Catalog Chassis Edition (excellent source for original part numbers), Covers 53-63 with some info for 33-52; 1950-1964 GM Interchange Manual, excellent for those hard to find 1961 parts. Information posted here will be directly from these books. I welcome technical inquiries for anything not already posted.

1961 MODEL IDENTIFICATION
A four digit number, called the car series and body style designation number, identifies any car as to series and style. Reading from left to right, the digits represent the following:
First and secnd digits: Series designation
Third and fourth digits: Body Style.

Example: Mine is numbered 3239 identifies a car as a 88, 4 door Holiday Sedan. Note that 32 identifies the car as a 88 and the 39 represents a 4 door Holiday Sedan.

BODY AND STYLE NUMBERS
The body and style numbers are stamped on a plate which is located under the hood below the left windshield wiper transmission.
The plate shows:
1. Year and style Number of Body
2. Body Number
3. Trim Number
4. Paint Number (Color Specification Number)
All Fisher Body numbers are prefixed by letters indicating the plant at which the body was assembled.

BA-Doraville(Atlanta), Georgia
BK-Kansas City, Kansas
BL-Linden, New Jersey
BC- South Gate, California
BW-Wilmington, Deleware
BT-Arlington, Texas
Fiesta sedan bodies are made by the Ionia Manufacturing Division of the Mitchell-Bentley Corporation. These plates are similar to the Fisher Body Plate.

Engine identification

On full size cars, the engine unit number is stamped on the left cylinder head.
